I've never taken one apart before, but I saw one of my buddies take one apart and he didn't seem to have too much trouble. Only took him a couple minutes.

Do you know if there would be any instructions id need to completely take the spring off?
Compressing the spring would be the hardest part. After you get the spring compressed, you just pull the retainer ring out from the end of the spring. Here is a link I found to a site that will show you how to disassemble the shock with two ratchet straps.

Yep thats the way it works.I did this once without any way of copressing the spring.What a pain.I used channel locks and almost took my eye out.
