I’m running Mobil 1 10w -40 synthetic motorcycle oil in my 2015 Honda rubicon. The manual says to change every 600 miles with conventional Honda motor oil. I was thinking about changing it every 1000 miles due to cost. I ride alot so 600 miles racks up quickly. Would it be a good winch deal to let it go a little longer. Or Just stay my butt off my quad and ride less.

I always base my oil changes on USE, not miles or hours
If I am working an atv HARD< be it towing a food plot implement, or heavy things around the farm in dusty air, or even plowing a lot of snow,
its a LOT of added stress to a motor and its parts, so
I personally change my oil a LOT sooner, and I ONLY run SYN oil!
20 yrs of doing things this way and my atv runs like new and I have been very FAR from easy on it over the 20 yrs

IF your ONLY trail riding and not riding HARD and on the RPM"S a LOT, , if it was me, I would maybe go a little farther than the 600 miles, , maybe try going to 800 and then have the oil sent out to be analyzed?
and see what the test results say at that point!

BUT then again, oil AIN"T that costly
countless folks run Rotella syn and love it and get it pretty darn cheap, they also offer Rebates on it often too!
changing oil is way cheaper than motor work LOL

AT same time I also hope your NOT skipping out on air filter care here too!, running on a dirty air filter is not good either!
good washable one's are nice, get two, wash one and have ready all the time so when needing a change, your not waiting on one to dry!

I change out air filters every 600 miles or more if riding dusty conditions. I have a back up air filter oiled and ready. I mostly ride on the farm land no high rpms. The oil still looks new with a golden brown color. I think I paid around $9 and some change per quart. The dealership charges $22.00 or so for a oil filter. The auto stores around here are a Joke. I tried to get them to cross reference the Honda oil filter. But was told it wasn’t available. Think I will order online in bulk it’s cheaper. Think I’ll stretch it out to 800 miles.

Miles and hours are not the factor you should be concerned about. As soon as the oil begins to darken due to carbon saturation, dump it out of there regardless of the miles or hours that it has been in service. You can buy K&N oil filters online for less than $7 in the US. Rotella T6 is about $20 per gallon. Don't try to stretch oil change intervals, oil is cheap and plentiful.

I agree, its not just time and miles,, BUT time alone can do damage to oil as condensation can happen from temp swings too!
and I agree buying oil filters online in bulk is the way to go, its what I do, I buy 6 or more at a time and get them pretty cheap off Ebay, even HONDA OEM filters too boot!
but have also used several other brands and never had a issue!
I have changed mu oil in under 100 miles many times, based on how hard I worked my atv and conditions it was working hard in!
I think based on hours/miles, my average speed on it it like 3 MPH or something crazy low, so, takes me a LOT of time to rack up miles, would take me about 2 yrs to hit the 600 mile mark and I will never go that long on oil in all my temp swings here!

Here's another inexpensive oil filter option, buy a few and the $7 flat rate shipping is still worth it: https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/tusk-first-line-oil-filter-p

If you're set on Mobil 1 like a lot of guys that use it are, good for you. But with the frequency you change oil, switching to Rotella T6 would save you a lot of $$ in the long haul. Amazon ships it for free too, and you can do rebates directly with Shell. Just make sure you go with the Diesel 5w40 which is wet clutch safe. The new "multi-vehicle" 5w30 blend is not.

I change out the Shell Rotella T6 5W40, every Spring. I can buy it local at HD for $20./gal, I also run it in the Winter in the Dodge Cummins. The local Honda shop doesn’t charge much for filters...
