i have a rancher 350 and my rear end made noises and stop moveing the front end moves i moved the boot to see if the universal joint was broken but looks good. i looked in a diagram and seen a spring that im not sure what it does i think it might be bad. would the spring keep tension on the universal joint to the main shaft at th e trans?

Welcome to the forums. Yeah, that spring keeps tension on the driveshaft to keep it from sliding back and forth and rattling, but I've never seen the spring go bad on one before. I guess it could eventually get weak, but I bet you have another problem somewhere.
