stock header v.s aftermarket

i have a 400ex and i was wondering what the difference is between a stock header and an aftermarket header. I've heard that the stock header has some thick welds, if i grind those off will it be the same as an aftermarket?

Nope, the diameter of the header is different and The bends are different. This allows more air to flow through and it flows smoother.
