I have a Honda Recon 250 (2003, I beleive - Can't rembember what year we purchased it). Anyway...it has electronic shift and when I ride it and stay in a gear for an extended period of time, it seems to lock in that gear and will not down or upshift. When this happens, not only is the current gear lit on the indicator, but 1st gear will blink on and off. As an example, the last time this happened, I was on a nice wide fire road and going flat out in 5th gear. When my husband (he was leading on his bike) and I turned on to a narrower, tighter trail, it would not down shift. The indicator light for 5th gear stayed lit and the indicator light for 1st gear was blinking. Anyone have any idea what causes this? My guess is that the transmission is overheating, but I'm far from being a mechanic. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forums. Count the number of times the first gear indicator blinks, that's a trouble code.
