Sounds like he hasn't made it to the flywheel yet. Are you saying you took the recoil off and now you can see the recoil catch? If so, you can use a large screwdriver between the fingers on the catch to hold it still. I'm surprised your impact isn't doing the trick though. Crank up the PSI and have at it.
