I am trying to replace the stator on a 2000 honda foreman 450 I took the pull start off and there is a disk and a bolt in the middle.I have tried an impact gun but can not get it off.If I use a socket the motor turns over. How do I take the bolt off in the middle?

Use a strap wrench to hold the flywheel ..

If you don't have one or access to one , I have used a ratchet strap and a piece of pipe in a pinch..

Sounds like he hasn't made it to the flywheel yet. Are you saying you took the recoil off and now you can see the recoil catch? If so, you can use a large screwdriver between the fingers on the catch to hold it still. I'm surprised your impact isn't doing the trick though. Crank up the PSI and have at it.

pssttttttt..he's at the recoil cage, not after the flywheel ?, stator cover is in front of the flywheel !..lol. he's trying to remove the pull starter recoil cage that has the long 17mm bolt holding it to the crank.
