did not think I would be posting so soon, but ran across a deal , according to vin have a 2002 TRX 250TM Recon replaced stator was putting it back together when I notice the arm on shift spindle was down ,is this the position it needs to be in for assembly,evidently I don't have a complete repair manual, appreciate any help

Bummer not sure how your engine is configured—check for the service manual and parts links in my signature block below
yes this is a common oopsie.
For instance the shifter shaft on my 1986 model runs all the way to the right side case. The manual doesn’t caution to hold the shaft in place while removing the side cover— or else the shaft will dislodge from the right side.
If the members here hadn’t warned me I would be pulling the right side case.
