Hi.

I have a 2007 Honda Fourtrax 420.

Electric start was working fine but now rarely starts with electric. Will fire first time with pull start.

I press the button, it turns over but does not fire.

I have checked battery and spark plug both fine.

There is somethings on the side.(right hand side of the seat) it's white with a rubber cover over it about 3 inches long. Whilst turning the engine over if I fiddle with it the engine will fire. I am wondering what this is and if this is causing the problem.

Any more ideas what the problem could be would be appreciated.

Thanks

How fast is it turning over with the electric?

It turns over as quick as it would do normally (before it fires) if that helps.

I will take a pic of the thing I fiddle with to get it to start.

It's strange I tried it again last time. Would'nt fire. Turned off and on again and it fired first time on electric. Turned it off and on and back to nothing just kept turning over.

Thanks

sounds like a bad connection in the wire harness..check all your connections..make sure they are good and clean..put some de-elec grease on the connections before you plug everything back in...sounds like a short in your wire harness right where your messing with.

I was told it might be the solenoid?

Any ideas of were it might be?

What it roughly looks like.

Thanks for the help
the solenoid should be by..or near your battery..it's round..has two post on it..one goes to pos side of battery..other goes to your starter..take the cables off of it..and clean them up..that might help..becareful not to touch the lead comming to it from the battery..or you will short it on something..you probally should undo it from the battery..either unhook the pos..or neg..that way you can't touch it to anything to short it...and that pic you took..it looks like that is where your stator ties into..make sure to take it apart..and clean it..do this with the battery unhooked..be safe !

That looks like a plug in the picture. If it is and it starts sometimes when you move it, then, it's probably either a bad wire in or around the plug or maybe the plug is corroded. Like shadetree said, make sure the connection is clean and put dielectric grease on it. Try that first. If that don't fix it, look for a broken wire in or around the plug.
