I guess we'll just have to wait and see if he's had the starter off or the hot and ground off of the starter. If he hasn't, then that can't be the problem, unless he just bought it and someone else had them off.
Well, I've never heard of that happening, but that don't mean it can't. It just means I haven't heard of it happening. If you have the wires hooked up right and you know that it is the right starter, then, it would be worth a try, because I am out of ideals.i have leads hooked up right ground to frame single wire starter on400 ex. talked to a mechanic friend on phone just a little bit ago he said that with a two brush starter if someone hooked up battery back wards before me that it could have switched polarity in starter motor and i need new starter. what do u think
Good luck. Hope you get it fixed.thanks man worth a try 50 dollar fix on ebay maybe
in all my years of working with atv starters..i've never heard of a starter doing that..now..i'm not saying it can't happen..but..i've never seen it do it..it will either run one way..or the other..or not at all.i have leads hooked up right ground to frame single wire starter on400 ex. talked to a mechanic friend on phone just a little bit ago he said that with a two brush starter if someone hooked up battery back wards before me that it could have switched polarity in starter motor and i need new starter. what do u think
I used to build windmills. the motors are the axiel flux type that is the same thing as a starter, just turns slower. so what happens is the permanet magnets cause a d.c. current to flow in one direction in the coils. a magnet has a positive and a neg. side if the magnets are in a weak state and someone has reversed the wires by mistake it can change the polarity iv'e seen it happen many times.in all my years of working with atv starters..i've never heard of a starter doing that..now..i'm not saying it can't happen..but..i've never seen it do it..it will either run one way..or the other..or not at all.i have leads hooked up right ground to frame single wire starter on400 ex. talked to a mechanic friend on phone just a little bit ago he said that with a two brush starter if someone hooked up battery back wards before me that it could have switched polarity in starter motor and i need new starter. what do u think
danggggggg..i just seen the muffler bit !..rotflmao !!You guys are killing me here if it's a double brush system and by chance someone took the brushes out and reinstalled them hooking the wrong brush lead to the wrong brush it will in fact turn backwards I have seen it quite a few times on 24v Scissor lift motors. just my two cents....
Other than that I think you may have a bad muffler bearing...
