If you know that it is the correct starter, then I would try rebuilding it.
If it's the wrong starter, it won't.rebuilding the starter wont make it turn the right way..if it's not the right starter..even after rebuilding it..it's still going to turn the wrong way..or am i totally wrong here ??
If the wires are switched on the starter, it would turn backwards and it wouldn't arc anywhere, either, because the ground won't be grounded to the engine case. I would say nothing else in the electrical system would be grounded either, though. If this isn't the problem, then, I have no clue.yeah..i asked him to trace the leads..make sure what wires went to what..if it's not hooked up right..it can run backwards..been there..done that..lolThe main ground on some ATVs, grounds to one of the starter mounting bolts. You didn't have the starter off, did you? If you did, maybe you put the hot on the grounding bolt and the ground on the hot terminal on the starter. That would make the starter turn backwards.
Well, I've never heard of that happening, but that don't mean it can't. It just means I haven't heard of it happening. If you have the wires hooked up right and you know that it is the right starter, then, it would be worth a try, because I am out of ideals.i have leads hooked up right ground to frame single wire starter on400 ex. talked to a mechanic friend on phone just a little bit ago he said that with a two brush starter if someone hooked up battery back wards before me that it could have switched polarity in starter motor and i need new starter. what do u think
Good luck. Hope you get it fixed.thanks man worth a try 50 dollar fix on ebay maybe
