New charged battery/ connections all proper/ when I turn on and hit start button I can here the solenoid click but am only getting about 5 volts on the wire coming off the solenoid going to the starter? What could be causing this as I’m getting 12v on battery side of the solenoid?

Based on what you are saying, there seems to be resistance between the two big solenoid terminals when trying to start. There should be none. Try this: Put one probe of your DC volt meter on one of the big solenoid terminals, and put the other probe on the other terminal. Then push the start button and read your meter. It should read zero volts if the solenoid is in good condition. If it reads something higher than zero volts, the solenoid has unacceptable internal resistance and will need to be replaced.
