So I know guys are using 1 1/2 × 1 1/2 square tubing to take that 60mm lock nut off but is that the inside or ouside dimension of the tubing?

I had gotten some 1½ x 1½ tubing at work and the ID was too small. I had to get the ID machined out a little because it wouldn't go over the pinion. If I remember later I can take my vernier and measure it out & get back to you after work.
Yeah that's what I'm trying to determine... if the inside diameter needs to be 1 1/2"x 1 1/2" or if the outside diameter has to be.
out side needs to be 1 1/2 x 1 1/2, then you will need to round down the very corners just a tad. what are you working on ?. if its a trx500 or larger ?, this won't work. only works on trx250's, trx300's, trx400's, and trx450's. anything above a trx450 won't work.

It's a 300 but thanks for the extra info.
Isn't it easier to buy a socket or a spanner? Lol.

It's easier but a lot more expensive. I think when I was checking around here it was something like 100$ for the tool. I just got a scrap piece of tubing at the shop and they machined it out for me. Didn't have to spend a dime! Even offered the foreman and the employee who made the part a couple beers after work and they declined.
What is the tool, just a socket or..?
There's a 3/4 drive socket set on ebayUK going for £40, sockets from 19mm to 72mm.

it's a large tool used to remove the lock ring that holds the pinion gear, bearing in the rear differential. you can buy a ring gear and pinion gear set on ebay, and they come with this tool, I think it was like 126 bucks for all of it if I remember right ?, well worth it, yes the ring gear, and pinion gear were after market, my bud bought them, I kept one of tools that came with the kit..lol.

Go to pic of the tool shady? I'm intrigued lol
The nut has internal hexagon Sam, not external as in a "normal" nut. I use a piece of 40 x 40 x 5 box and just round the corners off a little until it's a tight fit INSIDE the nut. It's more of a locking ring than nut. 40 x 40 box and big stillsons, job done.

And talking of diffs, who's a lucky boy ? Rummaging in a box of parts I bought for next to nothing and came across an as new ring gear under an old wiring loom. Moved some more bits and found a diff case, turned it over and it has a pinion in it in the same condition. So, a bearing kit and I have another as new 300 diff :rating10: :yeahbaby01:

I just buy the proper tools as needed. I don't have the time or patience to dick around trying to cobble together stuff when I can buy the proper tool for less than $50. Might was well order a blind hole bearing puller while your at it....

At the time Mac, all I had to do was turn round and pull a bit of box from the offcut bin, cut it to length on the bandsaw next to me and walk maybe 10 paces to the bench grinder. Quick and simple. Plus the fact, as Sam says, I like to make :)
@rodp if I had a machine shop in my back yard I'd probably do the same. But I don't lol I don't even have a welder or oxy/acetylene in my shop.

If you ever holiday to the UK Mac you should pop over to Dads shop, you'd be in heaven lol.

Probably lol. There is a nice little Logan metal lathe for sale here locally I'm trying to convince myself not to buy lol.

What's the blind hole bearing puller for? Is it to remove the little pinion bearing?
