Most of the GNCC racers I know drop 1 tooth in the front and call it a day. But let us know how it goes.

A 12 t on the front, stock rear, and 20" tires should work out well. It will make the front end feel nice and light and make it a lot more fun on the trails. I prefer to ride the tight and nasty trails with my 300ex and the 12t sprocket was the best and most noticeable mod I have done.
