Hey all.

I am replacing the shift motor on my '03 Rancher. Thanks to the advice here, I have added a liberal amount of white lithium grease to the gears. I'm trying to reinstall the gears and I'm stuck on the spindle gear. In the manual, it shows to align the dot on the spindle gear with the "wide tooth on the shift spindle".

I don't actually see anything unique on the shift spindle except the flat spot, and that is NOT aligned in the manual picture. The (other) attached image of my unit doesn't show the underside, but is there actually a tooth on the bottom that is wider than the rest that is not shown?

Not sure how to proceed.

Thanks.

the flat spot the manual is talking about is the flat spot on the angle sensor, look inside the angle sensor, you will see a flat spot. install the gears back into the case, working your way out like the first picture shows, then when installing the outer cover where the angle sensor is, make sure to align the flat spot to the correct angle on that long shaft, thats all there is too it :).

Install the lower gear centered with the middle gear tooth. In other words, there should be an equal number of teeth counted on either side of the mesh of the middle gear. In your case the middle gear should mesh with the 4th tooth of the lower gear, leaving 3 teeth on either side... so the lower gear can swing an equal distance... clockwise and counterclockwise.
