I know the whole color thing. White is lean, black is rich, brown is right, but how long do you have to run your machine before you check the plug?

Get it warmed up, then mash all the way through the gears, when at the top of 5th kill the motor.

I have the pilot backed out turns. My honda dealer said to screw it in all the way and go out three. Did that, and the plug was still white. Is the whole insulator supposed to change? There is a spot that isn't covered by the cap that is black, but i don't know if that is grime that has bulit up or what.

sometimes i have to ride about 10 minutes to see any color on mine.long as its not popping im guessing its not lean.

It idles smooth and holds power. The only time it pops is letting off the throttle or going down a hill in low gears. I think that might just be the pipe though, there is no way to adjust back pressure on it.

just keep an eye on the plug if it doesnt brown after awhile of riding you know its lean.

???? help plz yesterday my 450r was popping in low gears going down hills. after about a 2hr ride. on the way back home ! ran great the whole time out to my buddies. but on the way home i notice it popping and then it would just die right out on me thought it was a feul issue. water in it maybe?? . but any ways i got homw pulled the plug and it was brown. so i sauid ok deffinatly fuel . drained the tank put back together and put new feul in it.

now it wont start.! any idea or other diagnosis i should do?

I would run a little dry gas through it. I always mix a little in with my gas can just because you never know what could happen.

make sure your petcock is on..and check to see if fuel is reaching the carb..sounds like fuel isn't reaching carb..that..or your float is stuck closed.
