It sounds to me like the CDI you put on it is a china knockoff. Those do NOT work on Hondas. You've got to buy genuine Honda electrical parts 100% of the time... with no exceptions! Replace that china garbage with your original OEM CDI if you still have it and have not dropped it on the floor yet.

Then, you need to verify that your ignition switch AND kill switch are both fully functional and that their harness plugs are clean, in good condition. You'll need a multimeter and a copy of the service manual for both of those tests.

You'll also need a battery in the bike that is in good condition.

If you are stuck with using a smartphone (makes you helpless) rather than a real computer, let us know so we can help provide you with the service manual info you'll need.

Welcome to the forums!

Going by the numbers : Part # 30410-HC4-770 fits a 89-93 TRX300FM or A , some places selling after market list it as 88-93 ---------- I know one difference in the cdi's over the years , 88-93 has no rpm limiter , after 94 they limited the rpm to 6,000 rpms ------ I would never use any after market cdi except for a Genuine Rick's ---- I have read where some of them after market cdi have to be rewired to work , I should not have told you that , I would not cut my wiring harness for a after market cdi

Welcome since your quad didn’t run when you got it everything is suspect right? Did you download the service manual?
1) get service manual Chapter 20 includes ignition system troubleshooting. Use the links in my sig block to get it and cross reference parts numbers.
2) only buy OEM parts. Your year is what they call 1st generation. If you bought aftermarket parts or from a seller who might have incorrectly listed a part, consider removing it and setting it aside while you troubleshoot
3) the manual will step you thru: is your neutral light on? Does your oil light come on momentarily and then go out? Is there continuity and power to the alarm unit? Then shows how to check kill switch and ignition switch connections.

Put old CDI in
Will it sputter when you spray tiny bit of starter fluid in there?
