I don't think there shear pins at all, but better that to break than something more costly
and you must have been going pretty darn fast to shear that pin, I have same like pins on my plow for over 20 yrs and never sheared one off LOL
maybe slow down a little while your pushing things! can very easily tweak the frame or worse!

No they are not shear pins. I have never heard of anyone shearing them. On the other hand I’ve lost a couple and many of those dang cotter pins.
Next I’m going to buy the pins with bales on them
HAHA< I too have lost a few of them over the yr, in hard crunchy snow they will get caught and if moving JUST right they will open the pin end and then slide out as you work the plow
I started to paint mine bright colors, and this way when they come out I can find them pretty quick, as I always notice when one is OUT, as the plow swings left and right when lifted more than the normal movement

Safety Orange seems to be the easiest color to find for me too LOL

I found they were the weakest link in my set up, for a quick on and off they work fine, but I replaced those pins with long bolts with a long shank. I have a Teflon nut on them and it only takes about 2 min longer to spin the bolts of and I never lose a pin in the snow, pins like the one posted are best used in vertical placement

Thats a great idea!! Gonna do that before i reinstall them.

Hopefully we are coming to an end with the snow though.. we (Erie) are currently 187" of snow, in 3rd place for our regional record. Buffalo NY has the record at 199".

yeah but all that snow in most of these places these days is here today and gone a few days later
all the snowmobile trails in most places have had poor at best conditions this yr as well as last few yrs
so inches per yr really doesn't tell the story on SNOW on the ground
winters USED to mean snow for months,
now its more like a few days and gone , then mud, then snow again, then gone and then rain and mud and repeat
winters suck anymore if you ask me
if we have to have the cold, I want snow to stick around for months as it once did!
just cold and NO snow sucks to me!
