I have a 2011 420. Ran it low on oil, got hot for a minute. Now it smokes pretty bad. What are the most likely causes and repairs?

Most likely the piston rings are now junk from lack of lubrication AND excessive heat. The "spring" in them is gone forever... and they wore completely out. The cause for that you already understand....

The topend will have to be rebuilt. Call G&H and ask them what they can do for you. They are darn good at what they do with good prices to boot.

Welcome to the forum.

Yep, pull cylinder, send off to G&H, and you'll get it back with a new piston ready to reinstall.

How did you run it low on oil? Leak, or was it smoking before?

If you've ever sunk it, you need to tear the motor down and clean out the bottom end, or any residual grit will work its way up to your newly bored/honed top end and wear it out in no time.

when you re-do the jug , don't forget to re-do the head with new stem seals on the valves , G+H can't be beat for a jug job
