New to the ATV world and was wondering if it is a good idea to put Slime in new tires as a prevenative measure. I just bought two new TRX420FA's and will be doing some trail riding and was wondering if the Slime will help prevent flats. Thanks

I personally don't like it but some people just love the stuff. so I guess it's just what you want to do.

some people sware by that stuff..me..on the other hand..have never had any luck with that stuff..if and when ever you replace the tires..that stuff is messy as can be when you take the tire off...if your smart..your best bet is to just take a tire repair kit..that has some plugs in it..so much easier to do..not nearly as messy..oh..and a foot air pump comes in handy :).

Agree^^^^ I put some in my riding mower and it worked fine but stock atv tires are 2 ply...4ply at best and a puncture from a stick or rock isnt going to seal IMO. And when you go to take the tire off with that in it? be prepared for a big mess

My cousin runs slime in his tires as preventive measures. But when he hits his top speeds he can really feel the slime in the tires.

Get the orange plugs not the black ones. I know they are radial plugs but the work alot better IMO.

I've used it and had pretty good luck, it was messy when I took my tire off but the pressure washer cleaned the rim up just fine. I also have a plug kit for bigger problems for the minor issues I think it does okay. I've never tried to patch one.. hell I don't ever want to take another ATV tire off again as long as I live.. LMAO

I've always just used tire plugs and haven't had any problems. I've had some slime just sitting out in my garage for 3 or 4 years, but haven't even tried it yet.

^^^^^ yup.

also when you put it in you need to go for an immediate ride of probably about a mile or so to spread it around in the tire. and you can deff feel them at top speed with the tires feeling alittle wobble and its alot worse if you dont go for a ride to spread it around.

I'm not sure about slime as I've never tried it yet, but if it's like fix-a-flat it will throw the tires out of balance, not that they were balanced in the first place, but you know what I mean. It will give the effect of an "out of balance" tire. I figure slime will too, that's why I haven't bothered trying it yet and I don't really want the mess it makes.

LOL thats exactly what we did.. truck and a board.. but still couldn't break the back side loose. had to cut the tire off then pry the rest of the bead off. then put a whole in the rim.. then couldn't get the new tire to seat.. it was a real PITA but its all done and fixed now.

i never use a board..just my front tire on my truck..lol..it takes some doing if the tire has been on the rim along time..but..with a spin of the tire..and back an forth..they will come off !!..oh..for future tire removal..not sure if anyone has done it..but..it sure makes it easier to ever get the tire off later down the road..before you mount your new tire..i take my rims ..and run them on a bench wire wheel..after that..i grease the rims on the bead..it sureeeee makes that tire come off easier later down the road !

Yeah I did hit it with the wire wheel, and then had to use jb weld to patch the hole in the rim but I never thought about grease.. just used dish soap and alot of cussing to get the new one to set.
