I have a 2000 300 Fourtrax, with the full time four wheel drive. Being constantly engaged is killing my turning radius, and keeping me from playing as much as i'd like. I've heard of kits to convert these machines to selectable four wheel drive, but i can't seem to locate anyone who sells them. If anyone could point me in the right direction, or suggest some better way of achieving this, it would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. Warn use to make a cable operated, 4-2-4 Select that let you disengage the front differential, but they have been discontinued. Sometimes, you can find them on Ebay. I believe Shadetree said that a Honda dealer near him, still had one in stock. Those are hard to find, a lot of people looking for them.

I have a couple more questions on the subject. First, how difficult are these kits to install? Are they simply a replacement driveshaft, or is there more involved? I am an average DIY guy, but if its a complex task I'm ok with leaving it to a professional. Also, how much did the front ends on Hondas change between models? Could I, for example, get a 424 originally made for a foreman and put it on my fourtrax? or would design changes prevent this? I only ask because it is going to prove to be a challenge to track down a kit specifically for my machine. Once again, thanks

Yes, they just replace the driveshaft and you run the cable up to somewhere that's handy.

They're ATV specific, as far as I know, they will only fit the ATV they were made for.

helmut is correct..they only fit the model it was made for..with the new engine designs they came out with..finding the one for your model may be a hard find..as helmut said..they discontinued all of warn 424 select's. as for the one that i seen at my dealership..it's gone...and it was for a 450 foreman i think ??..your best bet..ebay..or craigs list...someone out there has a stock pile of them...i'm sure they made alot of them..it's just a matter of finding them.

Welcome to the forums. Keep an eye out on Ebay, too. Sometimes you can find them there.
