I have been through heck getting my usually reliable Rancher 2x4 2011 running. Events: sat covered in garage 5 months. Periodically turned on to run some. Then, put corn in back for deer, battery dead, Fuel Relay made bell ringing sound which I put on a YouTube. I replaced battery,fuel relay, all fuses good, water was in oil, so changed x2 and filter. Spark plug changed, new vertical fuel filter, No leaks. It would start and idle a minute or so, press throttle and Konks
out. Spray starter fluid and it starts but konks out. I am thinking bad fuel pump, and will check voltage to pump asap. No regular humming of pump when I turn key on. Just light buzz near rear around air filter area. My mom is dying, on hospice in hospital since 6/28/18, so my priorities have been elsewhere. Had a moment to sit in chapel, and would appreciate any feedback. I also cleaned carb. Thanks from SC

my first response would why was water in the oil ?, been sunk when you were not looking ?..lol. my second thought: check all you wires for mice having a dinner party !. last thought for now: as you said, sounds like the fuel pump is bad ? ( very common for that model/years ). check to make sure your getting fuel not only to the pump ?, but to the injector ( pretty sure that model is fuel injection ? ). check the injector relay. p.s. sorry about your mom bro..prayers too ya !.

My son ran it into our pond a year ago,and oil was milky when I checked it. Drained oil and blew comps air in to dry and force all out. I even have a flex light scope with input to screen ( medical professional) so all looked clean after 1st oil change, then did a 2nd change to be sure. Reason H2O in oil, Best of my knowledge and auto mechanic friend’s. After I did the first oil change, it ran great. No problems, then last month, wham.nothing but idle. Now, it just turns over and over. I can press throttle and it sounds like it wants to run, but nope. That No “kick in easily heard noise” at key on position absent, worries me for bad fuel pump. But, as I said, I will check voltage stage of fuel 2 power wires to be sure of result, when I can. Thank You

yw . yeah..water ( ponds ) don't mix very well with atv engines !..lol. check all your electrical connections for corrosion ?. and tell your son to take the boat to the pond next time instead of your atv !..lol.

Very sorry to hear about your mother.

I would guess fuel pump going out. The 420 fuel pumps don't do well if you let them sit, especially if you don't have ethanol free gas in them.

My wife's 09 ran when I got it (smoked and knocked, but ran).
I pulled the engine and rebuilt the whole bike over a period of several months and when I went to start it, the fuel pump was bad. They seize up if they sit for long with E10 in them. New fuel pump and it fired right up.

Before you drag out the pump, try running a wire from battery + to red/black terminal on the coil. That will bypass all the electrical crap on the bike like the bank angle sensor. If it doesn't run with the jumper in place I'd replace the fuel pump.

Thank you so much. Thanks for word of care and hope Momma doesn’t suffer any longer . 3:30am is bad time for nurse to call and say your mother is screaming your name and wants a shot to end it all. Heavy month , really since 5/21 began with terrible fall, not accessed by the asst living facility and I checked her on 3 rd day, it was dreadfall what full force trauma falling down backwards into a holly bush will do. I have “people” working on it for me. I appreciate everything

About 10 years ago we were there with my maternal grandmother. I grew up next door to them and she and my grandfather were just like parents to me. I actually live in their house now that they built in 1947.

My grandmother had either dementia or Alzheimer's, and towards the end, for months, she was almost unresponsive. The last time I visited I didn't think she was able to comprehend that I was there, much less who I was, but one day as I walked into her room she looked at me and said "Hey William". Those were the last words I heard her say, and possibly the last coherent thing she uttered, but what it meant to me was that no matter how bad I thought she was, she was in there and knew that I was there, even though I had often wondered if she was gone completely.

It was a blessing when she passed. It's horrible seeing someone suffer and knowing they won't get better until they pass over.

But I'll see them both again, and they sure aren't suffering now.

Prayers for you and your family, because where you are now is as bad as it can get.

Thanks to all well wishers and prayers for Momma. She passed on to Heaven, early this morning, so it’ll be until after Wed before I worry about a fuel pump. Only child,and single dad,llots of decisions. Lots of friends and some close relatives , and church ladies already feedin me and my kids like it was last meals! Chickens better watch out next 4 days! rusty
