I recently changed my front differential oil and the next day I noticed that it had a very slow leak where the shaft goes in from the back. Could I have done something wrong or possibly used the wrong fluid.

I doubt it, not just by changing the fluid. Make sure your vent lines aren't stopped up as this could cause the seals to start leaking.
