Welcome to the forums. What rods are you talking about, the pushrods that open the valves??
If you're talking about the pushrods, depending on the position of the cam, one may stick up higher than the other one if the lobe that it rides on is up. I don't now if this is what you mean or not.
Perhaps he dropped the cam chain and it's bound up in the bottom of the engine??
The Foreman don't have an overhead cam. The cam is in the bottom of the engine.
Yeah I see that now but if he removed the Jug wouldn't the cam have to come out?
No, you have to remove the clutch cover and both clutches and the cam comes out the side. The only thing that has to come off to remove the jug is the valve cover, rocker arm assembly, and the pushrods.
Gotcha! Darn utility quads...lol never simple. well actually it's more simple just have to readjust the valves no cam to screw with. lol
It's simple to just change the piston and rings, but it's a PITA to pull the cam because it's hard to get to. When they changed to the pushrod engines, that's also when they changed to the longitudinally mounted engine. It's hard to pull the side covers off of the longitudinally monunted engines because they're in the front and back and there isn't much room. It's almost easier to just pull the engine sometimes.

On the Rancher, you have to remove the pull rope assembly and the stator cover and the cam comes out that side. On the Foreman, the clutch cover has to come off and both clutches and the cam pulls out that side.
Yeah, the 250EX has the pushrod engine, too.
Yeah, the top end rebuild on a pushrod engine is pretty simple.
