Hi guys I am new here! Today I bought a 1992 300 fourtrax cheap needing a little work. I noticed when you kill the engine something keeps rolling over making a roaring sound. It starts and runs fine with plenty of power. The guy that I got it from said it had something to do wit the kick start which doesn’t work. I am a fairly good mechanic. I just need someone to point me in the rite direction in where to start. Thanks in advance!

welcome, your centrifugal clutch one-way bearing is going out/bad. thats the sound you are hearing when you turn it off. it's safe to ride it, but you won't be able to kick start it, or have engine braking. other than this ?, its ok to ride, but do you REALLY want to be miles from home, battery go dead, and no way of starting it ?..yeah..thougt so..lol.

Welcome to the forums Crossbrand ' , I can say what Shade told you is right on , have had the same thing happen to me before a couple of times on different 300's , I rode one for a couple of years like that and actually liked it , as the engine braking isn't there any more and it rolls freer when you let off the throttle , but one disadvantage is you need brakes a little more -----I have a 92 300 also , what color is yours , hows about a pic

Thanks for the info guys I greatly appreciate it. How hard is it to change the bearing? I bought it for my son who has a Japanese 110cc four wheeler now but needs something bigger. He had some money saved up and I loaned him the rest. I want to get it fixed it for him.

you need to take the right side cover off , and take the clutch out , the bearing is in the clutch , you would need a gasket for the case half if you tear it getting it off , you can just use Honda Bond and no gasket , it works , I use the gasket and Honda Bond on just the case side , clean the screen while you are in there , if you have any oil seepage around the kick starter shaft or reverse shaft seals or at the sensors then take care of it while the case is off , it is not too bad a job , if you never did it before , getting the case back on and lining up with the release mechanism can be hard and the kick starter spring maybe the hardest part , I know you can do it with help from the guys here on the forum
