Moring...

had a quick question, hunting season is right around the corner in my parts of the desert and was wondering if any of you guys have used them Kolpin rifle holders that mount on the front rack? I've read a few reviews that they suck? any input would be helpful. thanks.

You'll have to zoom in to see them but are you talking about the ones I have on my front rack? Mine are the ratchet version and I've used them to secure an axe, rifles and my bow. Work great for me.

thanks for replying. I saw that style online and they looked great. Nice looking quad.

all rack mounted holders will vibrate the crap out of your gun, bow or??
I Highly DON"T recommend them PERIOD< they are BAD for your weapons
I had a gun store for yrs, been involved in shooting competitions , training, and all aspects of the sport
there ALL JUNK
if you have a SHORT ride to your stand, ?? OK I guess
but if you travel a lot on an atv, I hope you DON"T value your weapons you stick in them
MAYBE beater guns, like AR's, pump shotguns
but?? Way too many vibrations, to effect things, from screws on guns, tolerances on parts and stock damage
will play hell on bows as well, loosening up sights and rests ??
your call
but I been around a LONG time, they are all HARD on your weapons!

best advice , just sling your weapon and carry it that way, OR buy a REALLY GOOD hard case, and carry gun in that, place some good foam between case and rack and ratchet strap it on?

Yup, what MRBB said I always keep mine on my sling on my back or in the front of me depending which rifle I am using.. Unless your gun laws do not let you do it that is I would do it like that.. But if you don't buy a scabbard with good foam in it to cushion it!!

Also use the Kolpin 'ratchet type' clasps ..... these have been mounted on a cypress cedar wood block with a thick rubber gasket between wood and quad rack. Sealed and waterproof. Remove in a minute with two 1/2" bolts. Very sturdy. I wouldn't think of putting a bare rifle in a rack of this type. Mine is in a ultra heavy padded full zip gun case.
This works very well for my use in northern BC.

The shortened Kolpin 'gun boot' is also visible. It is a modified unit, with a quick release fasteners. Cut, molded, sealed, and with a quick detach handle ..... again very heavily padded.

I wouldn't use the Kolpin products in their original form.
Like others here, I have a valuable rifle and don't want it damaged.
