Looking to replace head gasket on my 05 trx400fa. Have never done this before, but appears to be leaking some oil around the gasket. Any advice or things I should watch out for? Have watched a bunch of videos. Looks rather straight forward.

Download the shop manual, it will walk you through step by step with pictures. Shouldn't really need any special tools, other than a torque wrench.

Head gasket or valve cover gasket. I would try cleaning it first as they all leak a bit and collect grime.

Awesome. Thanks. Gonna give it a go this weekend. One question. I saw folks recommended using permatek on the gaskets. Do you guys add this?

Permatex is a company that makes all sorts of sealers for all sorts of materials. So, depending on the gasket material and how it is designed and made, each may require a different sealer type... or none at all in many cases. Refer to the instructions from the gasket maker (or the manufacturer of the motor if an OEM gasket) for your sealer needs.
