Helping a brother work on a motorcycle, but posting here cause I don't want to join a forum for one stupid thing that should be easy.

I've removed probably 100+ drive chains in my life. O-ring and non. Never once have I had this issue before though. Got the clip off this master link right away. But the plate will NOT budge. Chain is in great shape and I don't want to use my chain breaker on the master link pins and have to find a replacement master link, cause I'm not sure of the brand of chain. This is a 520 o-ring chain. It's not dry and rusty either.

Any tricks to try? We tried pliers, punches, prying, pounding, pulling, you name it.

I always wedge a flat blade screw driver between the pins. It will force the plate off. I have encountered a rivet style masterlink that had to be hit with a grinder to come off. In all honesty street bikes arent supposed to have a clip style link. They are supposed to be the rivet style and they are actually really easy to use. I just used a standard flairing tool to flare out the ends of the pins. Worked like a charm and i made many passes on the track with my chain that way. Trusted it to 11,000 rpm launches and mid 10 second 1/4 miles passes. My .02 is put a rivet style clip on. Take it for what its worth
