I'm browsing through the service manual for my 99 recon and looking at swingarm removal. Why does the wheels, brake, and axle have to be removed to remove the swingarm? I had a 250X and the manual said the same thing but all I did was take the chain & shock off and remove the swingarm bolt and no problem. What's the truth here?

Welcome to the forums. You don't have to remove all that to get it off. Just unhook any brake cables and vent lines that might keep it from coming off when you unbolt the swingarm bolts.

Thanks for the welcome. I didn't think I needed to remove all that stuff. Except for the wheels which might become a little awkward and heavy when moving the swingarm around. Also, how hard is it to remove the axle? It was pretty easy on my 250X but on this recon, it looks like it's a lot of stuff.

The axle really isn't that hard to remove. You have to remove the hubs, and the brakes and the axle slides out the right side if I remember right.

Ok, thanks. I just may take a look at everything this weekend or sometime soon. Bought it used and when I buy something used, I'm pretty anal about going through it really well. This seems to be a pretty active forum. I'm in some others that are dead.
