I have the HL disc brake conversion on my 300 4x4 and love them! They always work even in mud and water!

That would be the best upgrade you could do, never did like the Honda drum break system, but LOVE Hondas.

Nice. I have noticed I haven't really liked how the front drums were grabbing so i stated to look at discs and found those that you saw in my first post.

Would you be able to swap out the front end from a 25oex? The frames are the same, so the a-arms should mount in the same spot right?

I don't know? You would think so? I haven't heard of anyone trying.

If you could, that would be sweet. I wish my old Recon had disk brakes. Its a good thing they have manual trannys, or I would have never been able to stop.

Yeah, all ATVs should have disc brakes, in my opinion. Most of the newer ones are, now, I guess.

I wish the same thing!!! Almost all larger atvs have the discs now. Honda is still one of the only brands that puts drums on there atvs. I've rode a suzuki 250 before and it stopped on a dime with its disc brakes and they were stock ones from the factory.

Yeah, my 660 has disc brakes on the front and back, but my Foreman has drum brakes on the front and back, so guess which one stops way better. LOL.

there is a guy on the high lifter forum that did swap out recon front end with 250ex front end! it is pretty cool looking by the way. i think it was an 01 i want to do that but too expensive for me, just adjust those junk piles and go on, if they worked. mine havent worked since about 3 months after i got it. im nervous about wearin out the back but downshift when i really need stopping (actually its slowing), but about to get new parts in there as they are ate up with mud. to me its a rust bucket setup but oh well.

I'm soon to be having a new set of shoes for my recon. I was looking around at getting a conversion kit from drums to discs. On 2006 Honda TRX250TM Recon Highlifter Disc Brake Kits For Honda ATVs at Powers Motor Sports I found a set that says it will fit the recon. has anyone every tried this to one or something similar?
Thanks,
Blake
Hey- are you sure those fit the Recon? I just researched this, and see that most all the disc conversion kits say that the quad must have 12" rims. I have no idea if your recon comes with 12" rims, but was almost certain that stock was smaller than that. I believe in order to make these work, you'll have to upgrade rims and tires. You could always give highlifter a call to make sure. I could be WAY off base here.

If you go to the highlifter site, there is only 1 Honda Conversion kit they sell and it is for the 4x4 models ONLY! Also suspect is the description on the link you posted to powersedge doesn't even list the Recon anywhere.

High Lifter Products - HONDA FRONT DISC BRAKE CONVERSION KIT

I'd definitely give them a ring, before I'd trust a reseller:

Yeah, all the disc brake conversion kits that I've seen have to have 12 inch rims. The Recon has 11 inch front rims.

Yeah just realized this was an old topic and the OP has rancher rims on it. Are those 12" rims? Maybe he got them to work? It would be interesting to know what he did.

There only the 11 in. Rancher rims. I never could really afford putting those style brakes. In the recon. I went cheaper and just did 11 inch rims and 24 inch tires.
