I recently bought a 2009 Honda 420 here in British Columbia and it does not come with a factory installed emergency recoil pull start (electric start only).
When I asked my dealer about it he said he would install one for free labor and that I just pay for parts. Anyone no the pros and cons of this. Why not put one on from the factory? Do I really need one?

Do you ride in real deep mud and water? Seems like I remember reading somewhere on this forum that people that were riding in deep mud and water were taking the pull ropes off and putting a blocking plate of some kind over them. They were saying that mud was getting in them and getting to the crank seals and the mud and dirt were cutting up the seals and were causing them to start leaking. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe that's what I read. Maybe someone else will remember.

My personal opinion on the pull ropes is that they can come in real handy if you go on long trail rides, especially if you ride alone. You never know when your battery could run down. At least with a pull rope you could get it started and get back home or get back to your truck or trailer.
