could be a number of reasons here..first off..i would check your rear brakes..make sure they aren't stuck..second..it could be a bad bearing..if it's not that..then your rear diff bearings are shot..and this will require a complete tear down on the rear diff to replace them.

Yeah, it should have lasted longer than that. It could have been a bad bearing from the factory. They don't hardly put any grease in those sealed bearings anymore.

Yeah, me too. That's how I know they don't put much grease in them.

lol..shouldn't be any sounds at all comming from the rear end..only time you should hear anything that is normal..is when you are pressing brake petal for rear brakes..now..does the sound happen when you do this with or without the brake drum on ?..if it's doing it when the hub is off..more than likely it's a wheel bearing.

I think the 420 has disc brakes on the rear.

Last time I had noise from the rear-end, the wife made me sleep on the couch...it was a bad seal! Seriously tho, bad bearings. One of my buddies had the same problem, with almost the same response from the dealer. It's almost like they don't want to admit there could ever possibly be a problem with a new machine. Good luck!

Well yeah, I didn't see that. It does say that, doesn't it? I sure thought the 420 had disc brakes in the rear.

OK, I just looked it up, some models do have disc brakes and some have drum brakes. The IRS models have disc brakes and the straight axle models have drum brakes. Sorry about that, Shadetree.
