I have an 02 Rancher 4x4 and it has worked fine up until about 2 weeks ago when it started making a noise out of the right rear wheel area. It sounded like a bearing that needed to be changed (loud squeaking/mild grinding, also it did not make this sound all the time) and I didnt ride it much after that. However, it does not appear to be a bearing issue because my rear wheels wont engage/drive anymore. Only the front wheels drive the ATV.

I am about to take it to a mechanic but dont want to go without any information. Have any of you guys/gals heard of this? Any idea what it could be?

I really appreciate any info you have. Cost especially.

Drain the oil from the rear diff and see if there is any metal shavings-chunks.
