Hi, I just bought a 2011 TRX420FW and when I was cleaning it I noticed the inner rear axle nut on the differential side spins freely. It doesn't feel like the threads are engaging. The outer axle nut wouldn't turn by hand. Should I just turn the outer nut on until it jams against the inner nut? Or Am I missing a spacer or something?

Hello,

Since you just got the bike, its probably a good idea to take it apart to find out why that nut was taken loose in the first place. That rear axle may have been taken apart by someone before you bought the bike... some people are incompetent hacks, some break things, some don't care and some leave parts out... you'll want to discover whether any of those are true in this case or not. Check all of the bearings and seals back there as well and repack them with good grease while you have them open.

You can lookup the part number for that nut on the parts fiche and use Partzilla for parts location reference in your repair. You'll need to read and follow the service manual as well, you can get a copy of that HERE.

Welcome to the forums!

Have fun with it!

it could just be the pic, but the treads don't look at tall as you get closer to the nut, as they do to the off, left of it?

as stated, best to take apart and make sure all parts are there and on right and treads are good, , that coming very loose while riding can be a accident waiting to happen??
