I have an 01 400EX with 440 kit and other minor upgrades (cam, pipes, etc....) Long story short its not anywhere near as fast as I would like. I have not taken it out in 3 years. I just got a new job and finally have a Monday - Friday schedule and enough money to go out and have fun on weekends. I've decided its time to sell my old girl and get something more up to date. I'm really interested in something with a lot more power. I will be buying used. Thing is I'm not really sure what to get. I'm 6'1 and weigh around 235 lbs. I never really felt cramped on the 400ex. I am considering a 450r or maybe even a Bombardier 650. I would love a Trx700 but they are a bit new to find a smokin deal on a used model. I'm not really sure what I could get for my bike but I saw a REALLY nice 450r for sale in my area with every upgrade I would ever want to do for $3500. Would this bike be too small for me? I am pretty armature. I mean I go for long rides with friends through the dunes but I don't do any large jumps or anything like that. I also go for fairly long rides on dirt where I really want something that won't beat me up on the woops. I just want plenty of power to get myself up hills and being faster than my friends is of course a plus Anyway, I would love to hear what people think. Ive just been out of the game for a while and am thrilled about getting back in it!

That bike looks great! So when I'm looking at used 450r's is there anything I should know about year to year changes? I heard in 06 they made some significant changes. Is this true? Any reason why I shouldn't buy an 05? Thanks

The 04/05 models have an external oil cooler, the 06+ do not. (I have never had issues with running hot) The 06+ is a tad bit faster do to the higher compression. 06+ have a better carb. 06+ has longer wheel base, better handling at speed. 04/05 better at tight turns. HRC kit for the 06+ is a better bang for the buck investment.

Check the frame for any cracks. Run it through the gears, check the air filter, lift wheels off the ground and check for any free play in the bearings. NO OIL LEAKS
