OK guys...need your knowledge again! Quick background - I have a 2004 Rancher AT in need of a top end motor rebuild..
This weekend, I ventured off the paved roads and logging roads onto a few trails with a few other female friends...
We were climbing uphill over a rocky surface at 2-4 mph and when we were about half-way, my ATV stalled. It started right back up, but when I gave it the gas, there was a major hesitation, and it finally came to life and got to the top. This happened several times, either always going uphill at a low speed or right after reaching the top on level surface. When we were going downhill and/or on level surface, it ran fine. When I've ridden it on the logging roads, some of which have long inclines, it always gets up and goes, but then I'm usually going 12-14 mph. It's never stalled or hestitated under those circumstances. The two women I was riding with have a 2005 Honda Ranchers and they didn't have this issue.
Is the stalling related to needing a motor rebuild? Other than that, it runs great. Kinda cold-natured at start-up after sitting for a few days, (won't idle without the choke up and/or finger on the throttle) but generally speaking, after about 5 minutes, it's fine for the rest of the day.
Thanks guys....
PS: I drive it in the automatic mode - I haven't mastered the ESP shifting as yet. Would this matter?
