Sir, it doesn't sound like you are actually getting the engine full of oil. On some machines, you have to pour the oil in slowly, and maybe even turn the engine over.
When you check the level with your dipstick, put the dipstick into the hole, but don't screw it down. Then, lift it out and check the level. The level should be at least up to the top line.

Also make sure when you put your oil in that you leave the dipstick out so that air can be pushed out of the case in essence venting your crankcase so that it will fill faster and more complete.

What brand, and weight of oil are you using???Are you using a wet clutch type of engine oil in it??? Did you drain, change the filter, and install the filter in the correct direction before putting the Honda recommended amount of oil into it???:icon_ devil:

if your valves are chattering ??..i can almost bet you what the problem is !!!!..if it's like the problem i had with my '04 trx350fm rancher ?..it's a big time problem..and they are prone to do this !..this info comes from my bud at the honda dealer..he's the guy that told me what to check..after i spent hours and hours trying to find out what was going on ??..first..let me ask..does this chatter noise..is it there when you first start it up when it's cold ?..or does it get louder after it's warmed up ??..if it's the later ??..then your problem is this....the valve stem area..which is the valve seat..under the valve head..this is pressed into the head..when the head gets hot enough..this valve seat works it's way out of the head...and sits there slaping against the underside of your valve !!..now..when you shut it down..the valve spring pulls this seat back down..then the head cools again..keeping the seat in...it will not come back out again..until you heat the head up from running it.

Welcome to the forums. The 350 Rancher has a dry sump engine, which means it has an internal oil tank built into the inside of the crankcase. The drain hole where the oil leaves the tank to drain into the crankcase might be stopped up.

You would probably have to split the crankcase to get that unstopped, if that's the problem. Here's an illustration of the oil tank and cross section of the crankcase showing the drain and feed holes. This should give you more of an idea of what I'm talking about.

And keep in mind that I'm not sure if that's the problem or not, I've never actually had that happen to one, but it's possible. That's sounds like what's happening, though.

looks like if that was it it wouldnt show any on the dipstick and not run very good
It may just be partially clogged, letting a little oil through. And it would still get oil to the oil pump through the oil feed hole. That might not be the problem, but I can't think of any other reason why oil wouldn't make it to the dip stick side.

Welcome to da forums...:icon_ devil:....If you think the oil passages may be blocked, drain the oil out, install the plug back in,and add the proper amount of diesel fuel instead of oil, start it,let it idle a few seconds, shut it off,do this a few times,or until the diesel shows signs of blackness in it(which is metal, dirt, sludge that is in yer engine),then start it up,let it run a couple of minutes, shut it down, drain the diesel while the engines still hot/warm...Allow it an hour,or two to fully drain out, change the oil filter, install drain plug, install the proper amount of new wet clutch friendly oil(Honda GN-4,Rotella T6,or any atv/motorcycle spec'd oil),and let her ride...:icon_gd:
