I have an 02 rancher 350 two wheel drive. When I got it I rebuilt the rear brakes. New shoes, cleaned, adjusted etc. Now they make a sqwalling noise when you stop. I tried to take the drum off to see what was going on but I cannot get it off of the brake shoes. It will come off about a quarter of an inch and then stops. What am I missing? Any ideas?
Thanks, Nick

Unhook the brake cables from the brake lever on the back of the brake assembly. Make sure the lever is in the "returned" position. You may have to wiggle the lever while you pull the brake drum off to get it in the full return position. I would say the brake shoes are opening up a little and the drum is catching on the brake shoes. It could also be hanging on the big metal ring that goes in the inside edge of the brake drum.
