My 2007 Rancher with about 7800 miles on it has a strange clutch engagement. It seems like it is a two stage engagement and feels like there is lots of slack in the drivetrain. However, there is no slack in the rearend or in the drivetrain when the engine is stopped and the rear wheels are off the ground and you rock them back and forth.

The clutch engagement issue happens when hot or cold, upon initial gear engagement and during up and down shifts.

Anybody have an idea what might be going on here?

7800 miles is a lot. have you changed engine oil lately ?, try adjusting the clutch, if that does not work ?, then it may be time for new clutch disk/arms ?. for what its worth, always use engine oil made for wet clutches !, DO NOT USE OIL MADE FOR CARS/TRUCKS !.

I always use the Amsoil 0w40 4 stroke small engine oil specifically formulated for clutches and transmissions integral with the engine sump.

Yes the adjustment is correct.

It is time for an oil change but that hasn't solved the problem in the past. I will change it today or tomorrow and repost on how it affects things.

Thanks for the suggestions.
