Hi!

I bought a Honda Rancher 420 ES 2007 that supposedly only needed an oil pump and a sleeve and piston. Now the engine is back in the frame and cranks well but wont start. The fuel injector is new, the fuel pump is new, compression is great and timing is good too.

When every sensors are plugged in, the pump pushes fuel to the injector and has good pressure, the injector ticks as it should on startup, but no fuel squirts out on strartup or when cranked. When I crank, the exhaust is totally dry and the intake is too.

When I put gas in the cyl head, it starts but quits as soon as it runs out of fumes.

Could the bank angle sensor be a problem for shutting down only the injector? am I supposed to get fuel squirting upon turning the ignition key? Could I have gotten a DOA injector?

I would appreciate some help her since I've been throwing parts at this ATV for a while now.

Thanks!

Sorry you're having a problem, especially one dealing with the FE. This is much more difficult to work on than the older models without fuel injection system. You definitely need to get the service manual. To properly check the fuel flow you need a pressure manifold hose and fuel pressure gauge. Yes, you should get a some fuel flow when you turn on the ignition, but what you need to know is if you're getting the proper AMOUNT of flow that it needs. This is why you need the tools I mentioned.

I hate to ask, but did you purchase a OEM fuel pump? If it's not OEM, then it may very well not be working properly. The fuel pump on these machines has to work perfectly or they'll never run right, if at all. So, if you purchased a knock-off pump, well....... I would not replace anything else until I knew the fuel pump was working properly.

Are you getting any warnings on the display? Anything blinking?? My 2014 Rancher 420FM has a built in function that detects a problem with the fuel injector and/or CKP sensor and will prevent it from cranking to prevent engine damage. I'm not sure about your 2007. If you did not buy a OEM injector, yes it could be bad.

Also:
check the fuel strainer screen to be sure it's not clogged
check the fuel tank breather hose to be sure it's not clogged or kinked
check the electrical connections to the fuel pump
check that you don't have a intake air leak!
check you fuel tank for debris
be sure you have fresh non-ethanol gas in the tank.

That's the extent of my knowledge. I hope someone else will chime in with their advice.

Thanks for the advice! I am soooo greateful that people like you help people like me! haha

I purchased a fuel pressure meter today to see if I have proper Fuel Pressure as you mentioned!

The Injector was OEM, but had been repacked by the honda dealer. (Seemed to be just like new)

The Fuel Pump rebuild kit was a knock off, so you may be right about that!

Checked the voltage on the battery too today since I read that could be the problem but I get 12.9V which is even better than expected.
