You will definitely need a flywheel puller for the flywheel, no way around that.

For the shift clutch, you won't need any puller as it's not pressed on, but you may need the tool to hold it with while you loosen the nut. You can hold it with your hand if you have an air impact wrench to loosen it with. That's how I do it, anyway.

For the centrifugal clutch, I've never needed the puller tool, but you may need it. Seems a lot of people have trouble getting them off. I usually tap the outer edge with a hammer to jar it and then grab hold of it with both hands and pull real hard. You might be able to get a pry bar in between the shift clutch and the centrifugal clutch and pry a little bit to get it started, but be careful, the shift clutch is made of aluminum and it would be real easy to break a piece of it off. Some come off easy and some not so easy. The centrifugal clutch is pressed on but it's just a light press. If you can't get it off like I described, you will need the puller tool.
ummm..hate to ruin your day...buttttt..lol..the flywheel can be taken off without a flywheel puller ( although the flywheel puller is easier )..you can take a large screw driver..two or three works good..pry them under the backside of the flywheel starter gear..as this is done..with equal pressure..with the flywheel bolt screwed in some..and a socket set on the bolt head..whack it with a hammer a few times..and the flywheel will pop off..did for me anyway.

LOL. You didn't ruin my day, Shadetree. I've done that, too, a long time ago, but that was before I saw a crankshaft warped from hitting the end of it with a hammer. I won't do it now.
i was speaking about doing the honda rancher's flywheel this way...as for old atv's..i just hit them with a hammer to get them off the crank...as long as he uses the bolt that keeps the pull assemblly on the crank..screwed in a good ways..and uses a socket on the bolt..he won't mess up the end of the crank or threads. this is how i got my 2000 trx350tm rancher flywheel off..more than once !..lol.
also would like to throw this out there..even though it doesn't pretain to this subject..if anyone ever has trouble getting thier flywheel off of a trx250..and don't have a flywheel puller ..and your in a bind without it...you can take the rear axle..or even a spare if you got one..and believe it or not..the threads are the same as the flywheel threads !!..screw the axle in..impact it..pops right off.
ok..thanks i will try those tricks tomorrow..........trying to get in there and change the connecting rod! big pain in the caboose!
i take it..you decided to just change the connecting rod..instead of the whole crank/engine ?..cheaper that way anyway...i hope you got a service manual..you surely will need it !..lol.
