I had my 2005 Rancher bored .5 over and put in a Namura piston and rings. I dunked it and burnt the rings out of it even after a washout with Diesel and new oil and filter. My question is, What is the piston to side wall clearance supposed to be. The ring gap now reads .065 in. with the worn out rings but there is no ridge in the sleeve making me think I only need to replace the rings and a hone job.

Suggesstions welcome.

Thanks

The ring end cap limit is 0.020 in for both compression rings and 0.040 for the oil ring side rails. Sounds like you're way over.

You better find out what took out the rings. The most common thing to take out rings is a defective, torn, missing, not oiled air filter. Is the rubber boot between air box and carb correctly installed? Dirt in your oil is also known as liquid sandpaper. I do not know what the history is on your ATV but it sounds like it needs a major engine flushing or several to get it cleaned up.
