Well the other day my buddy & I went out & set up his bear bait stand. We drove the quads in a few kms off the road & trails were everything from snow to mud. He had just bought a 2006 Can Am 400. We tuned it up before we went out & he surely knows what I've modified on my mine. Well after we were all done with the bear bait & back at the truck, he says wanna run er? I was like sure... however I told him I know he would take me as he is an automatic tranny... But we continue on.... We were out in the middle of no where, so we lined up on the pave, counted to 3 and went for it! I had my quad in 2wd but made no difference as I figured. He took me, but only to top speed. Once we were both maxed out, he couldn't pull & I couldn't gain.. He said his speedo was showing 54mph... Overall he may have got me, but I still know I have the stronger quad! LMAO. He was struggling to haul his sled with bear bait, so I had to take it & drag it in for him! hahahahaha

Wow, your winter snow pack is almost all gone! The deep snow morphed into a glacier here, though its beginning to melt and run off on warm, sunny days now. I might have another week of snowmobiling left.

The Can-Am guys that hang we me "NEVER" want to tow a bike back when it dies out , they bitch and complain , they can pull but it is very hard on them , you can smell the belt burning ======== and they can't carry no weight on the back rack cause they can't steer when they do , they can carry an ice chest , but not a hog or deer

I read the thread title and thought why would you bother lol 400 Can-am is a good match, they were nothing special. Funny enough though the 400 is literally half an 800 engine, so all the big bore kits, Maverick heads, cams etc for the big machines will fit them as far as I know.

The Honda’s carrying weight better, of course the SRA machines like weight on the racks better than the IRS Can-ams but that goes for any IRS machine. And as far as a Honda out pulling one of the big machines I just have to laugh. Never happen. Period lol!

It happens all the time here , the Can-Ams "can" pull bikes home , the owners just " don't want to " because it burns up their belts ------- but this ain't pulling a bike down a flat road , it is going thru ruts that will get a bike stuck that is not pulling another one and for a long ways

To be honest pulling a dead quad through shitty terrain is hard on anything, I’ve broken more parts on Honda’s AND Can-ams trying to drag broken machines out of the bush than I ever have in just normal riding. I can see why anyone would be reluctant to do it, but you’ve got to help your riding buddies. It’s different when your riding a $500 machine and have your own personal junk yard to keep it going, you wouldn’t really care so much about beating the snot out of your machine trying to pull a half ton of dead weight behind you.

Haha nothing is light anymore. My Rubicon is 700lbs + tires, those 30’s I ran on it were about 200lbs per set so there’s 900lbs. No different than a Can-am or Polaris. The days of sub-500lb 4x4 quads have come and gone. Haven’t broke one bad enough that it’s left me stranded, can usually get them out under their own power.

It was just for fun obviously, but again, I knew a clutch driven atv would leave me at the line. He bought the atv for hunting & hauling bear, deer & elk out of the woods. I'm sure it can do it, but like mentioned the rear of an IRS atv hates weight on it. My brute force was wild to steer with my wife on the back...
