hows it going this is my first post, i got a 03 300ex this summer and on the middle of the rear theres a hole that should have a bolt in it [my friends 250 does] he said it needs to be loosened before you adjust the chain my question is since i dont have one there is there a way for water to get into my bearings [i rode at least 3 times a week during the summer and i can move the quad very easy right now with no grinding noise] i just want to be safe so i dont put money into it if i dont have to. thanks ps i go through a lot of puddles here no way to avoid them

Welcome to the forums. Do you think some one could have drilled and taped it and had a geese fitting init.
If its a new rear and bearings it may have sealed bearings in witch would be good. Are you talking about the alien head bolts that that you loosen to adjust the chain. If thats it you will be ok but you will need to put a bolt back in to help keep the chain tight.
I see what your talking about now. I totally over looked that.

Im not sure but to be on the safe side I would get one.
YOur chain may start getting too much slack in it and if it throws one i've seen them tear up a crank case or bind up all around the front gear.
Ya I know all about that binding up around the front gear. Thats why I had to be toed out of the woods. No Fun! You don't want to bust that crank case.
And thats when Im thankful I have a case saver.
