Push button start will not work.
Hey everyone I'm new to the site.
So here goes: All I get is a clicking noise from the solenoid near the the battery. I did some research and found that I should clean all the terminals that relate with the starting system. I did all of that! I still get a clicking noise from it. The battery is fully charged. The kick start works. I also found that if you take a screwdriver and touch the top post of the solenoid it tries to start which it attempted to. Would I need to replace the solenoid? Please help!! Thanks.
plus I usually do a lot of riding through water and mud so I don't know if this could be another reason.

yes he is lucky lol im got two ranchers in trying to get going:lifting: i went from 6 months ago having everything done by a shop then they ripped my off:icon_cussing: so i said screw that and since then ive done 3 rebuilds and lots of other stuff its amazing what you can learn if you put your mind to it...your welcome..at least your not rebuilding the engine in it !...the atv in your avatar..is that a trx300 ?..looks like the one i'm rebuilding.Im going to have to go through and check the grounds from the sound of it. My father and law said the brushes were in good shape when he had it apart and it only clicked once out of probably 30 times trying to start it. I hooked the ground up to the starter bolt when I installed the starter but Ill have to check up by the battery to see if something isnt right there. Thanks for the info guys.
se a hair dryer on the solenoid to try and dry it out first, if that doesn't work you need to replace it as they are totally water proof. ,

Yea Its a 96 Trx300. Im going to buy a new starter today. Me and my brother used it a good bit yesterday hauling wood and its back to only starting with the push button every once in a while. I checked my grounds and everything seems to be tight. So I am just going to replace the starter.
my trx300fw is looking great so far..gotta love these bullet proof bikes !..before you go buy a starter..do this first..take your starter switch assembly apart..see if you can get the start button apart..sometimes the contacts behind the start button will corode over..not letting the start button work right.your welcome..at least your not rebuilding the engine in it !...the atv in your avatar..is that a trx300 ?..looks like the one i'm rebuilding.Im going to have to go through and check the grounds from the sound of it. Ill have to give it a try. However I already ordered the starter but I could always keep for when It does go out or send it back.
sorry to ruin your day..but a starter is considered an elec part..and if where ever you baught it from is like a dealer..they may not take elec parts back once you purchase it. on the other side..at least you got a spare starter..lol.Ill have to give it a try. Yea I kind of figured that. Oh well. I guess it wouldnt hurt to have an extra starter sitting around. I just hope I get the problem sorted out.

Im going to change the starter out tonight after work so I guess Ill see soon enough. Hopefully its the starter so I can justify buying a new one.
