I melted the white cylinder ring that lines the filling tube of a plastic 2005 rancher tank. I've seen the same application on most of the plastic tanks. I had water blasted a tank and was drying it and melted the white ring and just took it out. The tank is still just fine, but wondering what in the heck is the purpose of that ring! The honda dealer said they didnt know and didnt see it listed as a separate part. Can someone plz tell me what its purpose is?????

No clue, but I will guess that it either a) helps prevent static or b) helps prevent wear to the black plastic tank that is probably softer material and can peel off and perhaps clog up the filter.
