Agreed...ya get what you pay for. I wouldn't consider anything other than Warn for a winch.

Well c i have read alot about winches and warn use to be really crappy, because they had plastic gears in a plastic case now they have metal gears in a plastic case, where protech has metal gears in a metal case. the warn does have the disk braking where everything else has dynamic, so is there a real comparison? The warn 1500 has only a .4hp motor where the protech 2000 has a .8hp motor. Both have 3 Stage planetary gear train but the protech has a 136:1 gear ratio and warn has 103:1. So not only does the protech have a stronger motor but also geared lower. So the protech does win on paper, but my real question is which 1 performs better in the woods? I have never owned a protech, but have a warn. I was always told that u could strap the chain to a tree and pull the atv all the way up and it would hold it for hours, so i tried and well MY winch did not hold up.

I have a 3000# gorilla and it will out pull the warn all day long you sure can tell the power differance! I did not care for the synthetic line at all so went with steel. the only reason mine broke is due to how I mounted it. I used a winch plate made for a superwinch which by the way it total junk. They use a 2 bolt mount and the gorilla has the same as a warn! 4 bolt anywho I modifided the plate to work but the to back bolts pulled out of the plate (long story) and caused the cable to wrap around the out side of the spool. but they worked with me every step of the way and gave me free parts to fix it even when it was my screw up! they also told me I could send it to them and they fix it for me and only pay shipping if I chose. Don't believe everything you read onther than me it has been a great winch and I would be willing to buy an other one heck a 3000# is only $100 on ebay you can't touch a warn for that!

I had a promark 3.5 and it lasted all of 6 months. The problem with them is they aren't sealed, if you use it in any type of mud whatsoever you need to go with a sealed winch. I now have a bear claw by extreme which is sealed and it works great.

Maybe the newer Warn winches are better but around 5 years ago all of my friends had them on their atv's and each and every one of them stipped the gears. They would send it off and get it fixed and the next time it would be needed it would happen again. I think that Warn makes great automotive winches and maybe they just had a bad lot of winches with bad parts that they received from someone else but it left a bad taste in my mouth and I wouldn't trust $350 with them just to see. Now we all have the Viper/Xtreme winches (same winch different sticker) and they are great. We ride in creeks with sandy bottoms and also in wet muddy gumbo during duck season (Arkansas) and have had 0 issues!

Just bought the ProMark 3000# XT winch off eBay. Going to install it this weekend. I came here looking for install tips and found this thread first.

The winch says it's waterproof/sealed - which one poster here said it isn't...? I guess we'll find out when we are buried in mud!

As an aside, I find that if you have a good experience with XYZ brand then you love it and recommend it to everyone. If you have a bad experience, it's crap and every one off the line is crap. Appears to be the same with winches!

my two cents worth..i'm a proud owner of the warn xt 25..after installing it..and dropping it off way over the bikes front end ( not on purpose ! )..and the winch was at least 2 ft under water...after getting around to using it one day..it worked like a brand new winch..i've owned warn on just about every atv there ever was..or at least could mount it on it..and never had one problem.

Which model Rancher are you mounting it on? I'm creepin' on the same model winch, but I have a TRX420TE 2x4 2010 model and I was putting my luck on a ProMark because it's a small size winch than the other "discounts" by around an 1". I'm hoping you will say you have a 2wd and you have no wheel scrubbing issues. lol

I have a Promark 2500 XT. It came with everything but mount plate. I paid just over $200 with the mount shipped. Included poly line, poly fairlead, stopper, hook, wiring, all hardware, 12' cable remote, and handlebar switch. I've had it over a year, and have used it a few times to pull friends out. I just hung a plow this year and will be using it most likely for the first time this weekend to plow.

I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER WITH IT!

With the exception of the new plow, my 07 Rancher 420 ES 4x4 lives offroad. This winch sees tons of mud, water, tree branches, etc. It performs flawless everytime.

I have a friend with a Warn steel cable who in comparison have lesser quality wiring than mine, and he's broken his steel cable twice already. Spend the $169 + mount plate directly through promark and get free shipping, free fairlead, remote, and stopper too. If you expect a warn to last 10 years, then buy this, get five out of it and start with a fresh one. Still coming out ahead!

Best of luck either way! Warn makes a great product. So does Promark, for a lot less $$$!
