I decided to knock on the head the idea of a project bike and bought myself a 'tidy' TRX300FW.

Then a rough one of the same model came up for sale nearby and those demons in my head were shouting 'buy it, buy it', so I put a winning bid of 440GBP on it. Trouble is, now that I have got it, I'm not really sure what I want to do with it!

On one hand it is a runner although not a stopper or a steerer!, it would cost too much in parts to get it up to a decent standard on the other hand, it has one or two good parts on it (new battery, starter motor, solenoid) which I can transfer to my main bike. Alternatively it has some good parts - front and rear diff - which if broke could mean that I could make a tidy profit on.

Decisions, decisions.......

If you plan on keeping your original 300 , I would save the bike as a parts bike and don't sell any parts off of it , soon as you sell a part then you will need it ------------- if you have someone you want to ride with , then fix it up as a second bike and it can be your spare to ride if you have to work on the other one

I have to agree with fish on this^^^, keep it whole !. sooner or later your going to need a part ?, and when that time comes ?, you would have sold it !..lol. I say fix it up, always a good idea to have a spare even if you can't get both running.

Billybob, if you do decide to break it or sell as a complete machine, please give me a heads up before you advertise. I'd be interested in a few parts possibly the complete machine if you wanted to sell as a whole.

Edit: I'm in Wiltshire, so not a million miles away.

So to update on this project (can't believe that it has been over two years), in the end I decided to keep as a project / spares / repair bike.
It seems that it wasn't a bad choice, from a cursory glance at the price of second hand TRX300FW they certainty aren't losing money in the UK at the moment and I have already taken the battery off to go on my main quad.

So the first issue that I can across was the welded rear hub. It didn't really stop me from doing what I wanted to do (fix the rear drum brake), but being as the rear spindle is one of the most valuable part on a quad, I think that I would have a go at finding a solution.

In the end, I found a real low cost solution; stick a few washers on the shaft! In the long run, might work and it might not but I'll try and give updates.

The second issue was the steering rod bearing. A lot of work just to fit a new £5 bearing! To be updated when I can.
