1996 trx300 2x4 ok i was muddin with my bud and after an hour or two my bike started to get hot and smokeing from the engine so i was going to park it and it started to pour oil out of everywhere where two plates meet and so i turned it off and the oil was realy burnt and theres pretty much no compression now... so if i put new oil in it would that help or do i need to tear the engine apart again???

Um, generally when they do that they're called boat anchors.
not always..if his piston didn't fry..and no bent valves..he may be able to save it..depends if he road it while it spat all the oil out of it ????..other than that..if still can be saved.

the trx300's are one of the toughest engines honda ever made !..they can take quite a beating..well..so much anyway...they don't call them bullet proof for nothing !

Yea, that's why I asked what kind of noise it was making before it quit running. As long as the oil comming out of the crankcase isn't draining from a big hole he might be allright.
if it was comming from the cylinder/head/bottom..well top of the engine where the jug sits..then i would say either it wasn't bolted down tight enough..or he didnt use the right gaskets.

Just go on and pull the head and take a look at the piston and head, to make sure nothing broke, bent, or missing! Then go get a new head gasket and put it back together and make sure to tourqe your head to spec. If you dont have a tourqe wrench most auto parts stores have loan a tool programs that will loan you one. But DO NOT waste your time just trying to re-tighten head bolts. The head gasket is junk now:icon_ nono:

Be sure when you're torque'ing those boogers down that you do it in the specified sequence also. I know alot of the things i have worked on there is a sequence to torque, and a sequence to de-torque. Spec books rule when it comes to motor work. My brother bought me a 1/2" drive torque wrench for christmas a couple years ago, bout a 125 bucks out the door, but man i love it. One of those things, once you get it, you'll use it forever. Plus, it's a craftsmen, so it's got lifetime warranty! :)
