I am going to look at possibly buying 2001 foreman 420S which the guy says the cable broke and it is stuck in 4wd and cannot put in 2wd mode. How can I check to make sure it is not something else that is major? I am going this Saturday and really hope it is an easy fix.

If it's a 2001 it must be a 450 which would have to have an aftermarket driveshaft to be able to shift from 2wd to 4wd (Warn 424) Rebuild kits are available.

If it's newer and actually is a 420 then it might be something else, I'm not really up on the 420 stuff. But if it's stuck in 4wd that sounds a lot better to me than being "stuck" in 2wd.

should be a 2001 trx450S, honda did not make or sell a 2001 trx420S...ever !!..lol. the trx420 did not come out until wayyyyyyyyyy later in the years, 2007 was the first year honda made and sold the trx420 .
